6 - Writing and Citing

Practice writing task:
Write a short paragraph about a key development related to your topic. It needs to show evidence of correct Harvard referencing use.

A key development in the publishing of books is the development of incunables as a starting point for the modern day book. They heavily influenced the 16th century as these were initially made by a singular scribe or a team of scribes using wood blocks that are individually carved into and printed for each specific page (Miller 2018). As each page was dependent on the carver’s ability, it was prone to human error and inconsistencies however there was very limited demand for books and these inconsistencies were overlooked. However the limited demand still conveyed a process that is used in modern day publishing; the “sell and produce”  (Breede 2008, p.31) business model. This business model was evident during Medieval book transactions as "an individual requested a copy of a book, which would then initiate a process of producing or copying the book” (Breede 2008, p.31) and this process often took months or years which prompted the need for an efficient method of printing.
