Case Studies

Leah Maldonado - Expressive and Bespoke Type
- original and based on landscapes

Kenneth Vanoverbeke - Expressive and Bespoke Type
- counteracts the claim that expressive type isn't rooted in historical influences
- semantics - can take inspiration/use existing semantics to communicate something

Monotype 'Helvetica Now' - Standardised type being reinvented
- redesigned to fit web design and small print sizes.
- "extensive set of alternates" "which allow designers the opportunity to experiment with and adapt Helvetica's tone of voice." https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mti/helvetica-now/

*Panasonic, BMW, Jeep, Lufthansa, Oral B, American Apparel etc all use Helvetica.
All use different weights, and depend on the other spatial elements to associate the typeface with their brand and not another. Colour, shape, and image.
